Nvidia chief Jensen Huang has published his debut post on X to advocate for the future of open source artificial intelligence. The executive shared an open letter titled Open Weights and American AI Leadership, which urges policymakers to support open models to secure technological dominance. Over 20 prominent tech organizations and investment firms have endorsed the statement.
Huang used his initial presence on the social media platform to frame open weights as a matter of national interest. He argues that public access to model weights is essential for keeping the domestic tech sector competitive. In his post, Huang shared his perspective on why this approach matters for the industry at large.

The coalition behind the letter includes some of the biggest names in the technology sector. Leaders from Meta, Microsoft, Hugging Face, IBM, Palantir, and Mozilla signed the document alongside venture capital groups like Andreessen Horowitz and Y Combinator. Artificial intelligence companies Perplexity and Mistral AI also added their names to the petition.
The shared statement acknowledges that while open weight models present certain risks, restricting their development is the wrong approach. The group argues that instead of imposing bans, policymakers should use open models to improve defense mechanisms and build stronger cybersecurity systems. By keeping these systems accessible, developers worldwide can collaborate to identify and patch security flaws much faster than closed proprietary networks allow.
