Sony RX10 V Official Release Includes 1 Inch Stacked Sensor and Professional AI Autofocus

Sony has updated its premium bridge camera family with the official release of the RX10 V. According to product documentation published by the company this launch concludes an approximate 9 year hiatus for the series. While the new model preserves the established optical configuration of its predecessors it introduces significant processing upgrades a faster sensor design and modernized physical controls modeled after the mirrorless Alpha series.

The imaging core of the RX10 V is built around a newly developed 20.1 megapixel 1 inch stacked sensor. This advanced silicon architecture allows the camera to process data fast enough to achieve continuous burst shooting speeds of 30 frames per second. For optics the system continues to rely on the Zeiss Vario Sonnar 25x zoom lens which provides an equivalent focal range of 24 to 600 millimeters. The lens maintains a bright variable aperture of f 2.4 at the wide end to f 4 at full telephoto extension.

Autofocus capabilities have received a substantial overhaul driven by dedicated artificial intelligence processing. The computational tracking system is now capable of recognizing a diverse range of subjects including human faces eyes heads bodies vehicles and insects. Sony has doubled the calculation speed for both autofocus and automatic exposure to 60 tracking operations per second. To support this speed the phase detection point coverage has expanded to 575 active points which is a major increase from the 315 points found on the older version.

Video performance has been elevated to meet modern professional standards. The RX10 V supports 10 bit 4K recording at 60 frames per second using the full width of the sensor to prevent cropping. For high speed capture filmmakers can record 4K video at 120 frames per second to produce slow motion footage. The software includes professional color spaces such as S Log3 and S Cinetone alongside support for loading custom look up tables directly onto the camera.

The physical chassis has been redesigned to align with the ergonomics of larger Sony Alpha mirrorless camera bodies. The new design incorporates dedicated controls for advanced shooters including a physical AF ON button to decouple autofocus activation from the shutter release. Connectivity and power features include:

  • NP FZ100 battery pack with over 50% more capacity.
  • UHS II SD card slot for fast data writing.
  • USB Type C port for high speed transfer and in camera charging.
  • Micro HDMI port and 3.5 millimeter audio jack.
  • Increased resolutions for the rear screen and electronic viewfinder.

Pre orders for the system are currently open at 2300 dollars.
