The creative minds behind Burnout have officially announced Wreckreation 2, a sequel to last years open world racing sandbox. The project comes from a newly formed studio called When Tides Turn, which assembled after the original game failed to find an audience. It is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series with no confirmed release date.
The sequel shifts the action to a new urban environment called Heartbreak, which is split into multiple distinct districts. Players who spend time learning the layout of these streets will gain specific racing advantages during competition. While the previous game focused heavily on track construction, this entry pivots toward pure racing and tactical combat. The developers are bringing back the popular Road Rage mode alongside a new creation suite called Live Mix.
Success in Wreckreation 2 relies as much on physical aggression as it does on raw speed. The primary path to victory often involves ramming rival vehicles off the road, drawing heavy inspiration from the combat mechanics of the Burnout series. This gameplay focus is a direct result of the design pedigree at When Tides Turn. The team formed after the closure of Three Fields Entertainment, reunited by the former game director of the Burnout franchise to try again after the original game struggled with fewer than 300 reviews on Steam.
