Xiaomi Announces Sky Nomad Automotive Sub Brand for Extended Range Electric Vehicles

The initial vehicle under the Sky Nomad brand is projected to be a full size SUV designated as the N90. The vehicle utilizes a hybrid powertrain setup where a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine functions solely as an onboard generator to recharge the battery. Direct propulsion is handled entirely by electric motors, offering the smooth driving characteristics of a battery electric vehicle without the associated range anxiety of searching for charging stations on long distance journeys.

According to preliminary technical specifications the N90 will be equipped with a battery capacity exceeding 70 kWh. This battery setup provides up to 500 km of driving range on electric power only. When combined with the onboard gasoline generator the total range of the vehicle is expected to exceed 1500 km, making it highly competitive for long distance travel.

The N90 is designed to compete in the large luxury SUV segment, with an overall body length measuring approximately 5.3 meters. To accommodate different family dynamics, buyers will have the choice between 5 seat or 7 seat cabin configurations. Reports and early images circulating from Chinese automotive sources reveal a muscular aesthetic characterized by a high hood line and prominent front air intakes.

Advanced driver assistance systems are integrated directly into the exterior design of the N90, featuring a roof mounted LiDAR sensor for autonomous navigation capabilities. Additional premium design details include electric retracting side steps and a robust stance that aligns with modern luxury utility vehicle trends. The vehicle represents Xiaomi’s attempt to capture a broader share of the premium family transport market by combining smart technology with high utility powertrains.
