DJI has quietly launched the Osmo 360 II panoramic action camera today. The hardware retains the physical design of its predecessor while packing major internal upgrades to video resolution and low light performance. Best of all, the launch price remains flat at 3,300 yuan abou 500 dollars.
The biggest physical upgrade is the introduction of user replaceable lenses. If you scratch or shatter the glass, you can swap it out yourself without sending the camera in for repair. On the sensor side, the light capture range has expanded to 14.5 stops, up from 13.5 stops in the previous model. The color profile remains unchanged when shooting in D Log M.
Action enthusiasts get a major bump in resolution and speed. Panoramic recording now runs at 8K resolution at 60fps, improving on the previous 50fps limit. Night shooting also reaches 8K at 60fps. This is accomplished using updated software algorithms called AI Super Night View 2.0.
Slow motion captures can now reach 4K resolution at 240fps for full panoramic video. If you prefer shooting with just 1 lens, the camera can capture 4K at 120fps. Timelapses also see a massive leap. The maximum resolution jumps from 8K to 16K, which requires a much wider pipeline. The video bitrate has increased from 170 to 220 megabits per second, peaking at 600 megabits during 16K time lapse captures.
To power these heavier workloads, DJI increased the built in battery capacity to 2150 mAh, up from the original 1950 mAh. The device also supports 120 megapixel HDR panoramic photos. For physical use, the camera features a dual sided magnetic mounting system and an NFC Quick Connect option for rapid pairing with your phone. According to details on the official DJI Chinese store, the retail price for the base model remains identical to the original launch price starting at 3,300 yuan about 500 dollars.
