Dutch hardware maker Fairphone has announced the Fairphone Gen 6 Plus, marking the brands official debut in the US market. The modular smartphone packs a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip, 12GB of RAM, and a repairable frame with 12 swappable parts. The device starts at $649 with 7 years of planned software support.
Repairability remains the central focus of the hardware. The chassis is built from 12 distinct modular parts that users can swap out with basic tools at home. Despite the modular build, the phone earns an IP55 rating for water and dust resistance alongside MIL STD 810H drop protection certification. The outer casing uses over 50% fair trade and recycled materials, keeping the total manufacturing carbon footprint at a record low of 30kg of carbon emissions for the series.
Up front, the device features a 6.31 inch FHD plus LTPO OLED display that refreshes at 120Hz. A 4415mAh removable battery powers the phone, supporting 30W fast charging and maintaining 80% capacity after 1000 charging cycles. The entire phone weighs 193g and includes modern connectivity options like Wi Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.
Under the hood, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor works alongside 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Users who need extra space can add up to 2TB via a microSD card. The camera system includes a 50MP Sony LYT 700C main sensor, a 13MP ultra wide camera, and a 32MP front shooter for video calls.
Software longevity is a major selling point. The phone ships with Android 16 out of the box, and Fairphone guarantees 6 major Android OS version upgrades, 7 years of security patches, and a 5 year hardware warranty. Buyers can choose between Forest Green, Horizon Black, and Cobalt Blue color options for a retail price of $649 in the United States and €649 in Europe.
