Galax has quietly released the Union B650M Wi Fi Black Knight PLUS V2 motherboard as a successor to its previous mainstream hardware. The updated model relocates the primary PCIe slot and maintains support for high speed solid state drives. But official technical details published on Galax hardware channels show major downgrades to the power delivery, memory overclocking limits, and wireless connectivity.
The changes under the hood impact overall system tuning and power stability. Galax reduced the VRM power phases from a 12+2+1 design down to a 10+2+1 phase configuration with 60A DrMOS. Memory performance also took a hit, with maximum supported speeds dropping from 7600+ MT/s to a much lower 6400+ MT/s threshold. This shift makes the board less appealing for enthusiasts looking to push high speed DDR5 memory kits to their limits.
Peripheral connectivity and physical layout choices also reflect the budget cuts. The motherboard features 2 fewer USB 10Gbps ports on the rear panel. Wireless network capabilities dropped from a 2T2R Wi Fi 6 setup using the RTL8852BE chip to a weaker 1T1R configuration powered by the RTL8851BE module. Builders will also need to supply their own rear I/O shield, as Galax decided to ship the motherboard without a preinstalled backplate.
Despite these cutbacks, some core platform features managed to hold steady. The board still houses 1 PCIe Gen5 x16 slot for modern graphics cards alongside 1 PCIe Gen4 x1 slot for expansion. Storage options remain decent, offering 3 M.2 SSD slots with 2 of them supporting fast PCIe Gen5 x4 speeds. Local networking relies on a standard 2.5GbE RJ45 port to ensure fast wired internet access.
