The global OLED monitor market has nearly doubled over the past year. A combination of new product launches, major shopping events in China, and high demand for 27 inch screens gave the industry a massive lift. While Asus managed to hold onto the top spot, Samsung faced a steep decline that allowed rivals to close the gap.
According to the latest market research from TrendForce, global shipments of OLED monitors jumped 26.1% compared to the previous quarter. This represents a massive 98% surge compared to the same period last year. The rapid growth shows how quickly organic light emitting diode displays are taking over the gaming and premium screen sectors. Much of the volume came from the 27 inch QHD segment, which remains the most popular size class for buyers.
The top 5 brands managed to hold their ground in the rankings, but the market shares between them are shrinking. Asus kept its lead with 23.1% of the global market, propelled by the massive 618 shopping festival in China and heavy buying from internet cafes. Samsung struggled to keep pace, holding 13.1% of the market. The brand has been pulling back its operations in China, which hurt its ability to capitalize on the summer shopping season.
This retreat by Samsung nearly cost the company its second place rank. MSI secured third place with 12.8% of the market, sitting just 0.3 percentage points behind Samsung. AOC followed in fourth place at 8.6% by rolling out a flood of new 27 inch models. LGE finished the top 5 with an 8.4% share, seeing steady growth as shipments of its premium 39 inch WUHD curved monitors began to ramp up. Improved panel supply across the industry is now helping smaller brands expand, setting up a potential shake up in the near future.
