Minimal Company has released a video teaser for its upcoming Minimal Phone 2. The second generation device moves away from the original paperlike display to feature a bright OLED screen and a more compact aluminum body. But the firm has yet to share an official launch date.
The main selling point remains the physical QWERTY keyboard. Designers have redesigned the typing layout for better comfort while shrinking the overall footprint of the phone. Ditching the E Ink panel from the first model is a major direction change for the brand. The front camera now sits directly above the new OLED display, fixing the awkward position of the previous model where the lens lived under the keyboard.
Metal has replaced plastic for this generation. Renders confirm the aluminum body will come in black and silver options. Button placement has shifted around the sides. The SIM card tray now sits on the right side of the device, while the volume controls reside on the left. A single camera lens with an LED flash occupies the back panel, keeping the rear design clean.
Audiophiles might be disappointed to learn that the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack is gone. However, the phone now supports fast 5G data speeds. The top of the frame features an unannounced toggle switch, though the company refuses to say what it actually controls. Faster, optimized software is promised to run the system smoothly when the phone eventually goes on sale.
