South Korean NPU startup Mobilint has launched the MLD R1, a compact USB edge AI accelerator designed for rapid deployment. The stick shaped device runs on the company proprietary REGULUS AI system on chip to deliver 10 TOPS of local processing power at just 3W. However, the manufacturer has not yet announced official retail pricing or global release dates.
The hardware serves as an external processing unit for low power smart devices. Inside the enclosure, the REGULUS silicon operates alongside a 4 core Arm Cortex A53 processor running at 1.5GHz. Mobilint offers the accelerator with either 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X 4267 memory. This memory speed helps prevent processing bottlenecks when running complex AI models locally.
Physical dimensions are highly compact, measuring 90 by 40 by 16 millimeters. The device connects to host systems via a standard USB port supporting 5Gbps data speeds. For industrial use cases, Mobilint has rated the device with IP65 dust and water resistance. This classification allows the hardware to operate continuously around the clock in challenging environments.
On the software side, the MLD R1 offers broad ecosystem support for popular developer frameworks. It runs models compiled in PyTorch, ONNX, Keras, TensorFlow, and TensorFlow Lite. Compatible operating systems include Windows and Linux, which can run on host processors utilizing x86, Arm, or RISC V architectures. This cross platform support makes it an easy addition to existing industrial setups.
