Samsung Display released new technical details explaining how the Galaxy Z Fold8 achieved an almost invisible crease on its folding screen. The updated panel structure swaps traditional plastic films for a dual layer titanium support plate to increase screen rigidity. However, these screen enhancements are currently detailed only for the newly launched folding lineup.
Information shared on the official Samsung Display blog reveals a shift in folding screen construction. The company replaced the older plastic layer with a dual layer titanium setup. This new metal film is 20 times stiffer than plastic. It is incredibly thin, measuring about 33% of the width of a human hair. Because of this, the total screen thickness dropped by 12% while making the phone much tougher.
Engineers also targeted the physical gap inside the folding panel. They squeezed the internal spacing and packed the top adhesive layer with a much higher density. This helps the screen handle impacts. When you drop or press on the folding area, the pressure spreads out. The crease is gone. Or at least, you can barely see it with the naked eye.
Screen clarity got a big upgrade on the premium model. The inner display of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra now features a pixel density of 422 PPI. This is a jump from the 368 PPI found on the older model. Both screens finally match in sharpness. You will not notice a drop in resolution when opening the phone.
