The P9 focuses on extreme transfer speeds for heavy media production, while the P7 emphasizes a durable shell that survives rough travel. Both drives offer storage options up to 8TB, with prices starting at $289.
The flagship Samsung P9 is aimed directly at creative professionals and filmmakers who work with massive file sizes. According to Samsung specifications, the drive hits sequential read speeds of 4000 MB/s and write speeds of 3800 MB/s over a USB 4 connection. That sustained write rate provides enough bandwidth to record raw 12K video directly to the storage drive without dropping frames. This makes the unit a practical companion for high resolution camera setups and demanding video editing workstations.
While the company has not published exact transfer rates for the P7 yet, the hardware is engineered for field work and physical impact resistance. Samsung confirmed the casing underwent drop testing from a height of 2 meters, along with strict evaluations for heavy shocks and continuous vibration. Broad hardware compatibility allows the drive to plug directly into desktop PCs, laptops, mobile phones, gaming consoles, and digital cameras without special drivers.
Both models arrive in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB storage capacities to suit different workflow demands. Pricing for the high speed P9 starts at $339 for the 1TB version and reaches $2699 for the 8TB variant. The rugged P7 starts at $289 for the 1TB model and tops out at $2289 for the maximum 8TB capacity. Global retail shipments begin in a matter of days across major consumer electronics channels.
