Xiaomi has officially launched its first network attached storage device in China called the Smart Storage. The 2 bay system features an aluminum frame, support for up to 60TB of space, and deep integration with HyperOS phones. Pricing starts at $402 for the 4TB model, though international availability remains unannounced.
The chassis uses a vertical tower design reinforced with an aluminum frame to keep drive temperatures in check. Inside, 2 SATA drive bays accept both 3.5 inch and 2.5 inch mechanical hard drives or solid state drives. Each slot handles drives up to 30TB, allowing for a combined storage ceiling of 60TB.
Processing is handled by a Realtek RTD1619B processor alongside 4GB of system memory and 32GB of onboard flash storage. Physical connectivity includes a 2.5GbE network port for fast local file transfers, 1 USB Type A 3.0 port for external accessories, and an HDMI 1.4 port capable of outputting 4K video at 30 Hz directly to a monitor or television.
Xiaomi built this hardware to fit straight into its broader smart home setup. Phones running HyperOS 3.0 or newer can perform full system backups directly to the device over local networks. The storage software also uses local artificial intelligence to automatically scan, categorize, and sort your personal photo library into dedicated albums.
Security camera owners can route feeds from up to 4 Xiaomi cameras directly to the NAS, storing up to 360 days of continuous video footage. Up to 16 individual users can create private accounts with isolated storage spaces. Remote access is free with connection speeds up to 40 Mbps across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Android TV.
For home theater setups, the platform supports 4K HDR10 video playback, wireless casting, and automatic film metadata scraping that builds a clean digital poster wall for your movie collection. This turns the unit into a standalone media server without requiring third party software configurations.
The Xiaomi Smart Storage is currently selling in China across 3 bundled storage tiers. The base 4TB model retails for around $400. Stepping up to the 8TB version brings the price to roughly $500, while the top tier 16TB package tops out at roughly $800. Xiaomi has not stated when or if this personal cloud solution will arrive in global markets.
