The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT has officially overtaken the older RX 6600 to become the most popular AMD graphics card among Steam gamers. Recent survey data shows the RDNA 4 card capturing 1.46% of total PC players as adoption continues to climb. While Nvidia retains the overall market lead with cards like the RTX 5070 Ti, AMD is finally seeing genuine generational traction among desktop players.
For years the budget friendly Radeon RX 6600 held the crown for AMD hardware on the platform. That era is over. The older RDNA 2 card has slid down to 0.83% of surveyed systems. In its place, the newer RX 9070 XT is steadily expanding its footprint, moving from 1.35% up to 1.46% across recent monthly tallies. Another sibling card, the RX 9060 XT, is also climbing the ranks at 0.80%.
The hardware under the hood explains much of this momentum. Built around the RDNA 4 Navi 48 silicon, the card packs 64 compute units and 4096 stream processors. Core frequencies push as high as 2970 MHz during heavy loads. Memory configuration is equally competitive, featuring 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM backed by 64 MB of dedicated Infinity Cache. That memory buffer gives it enough headroom to handle demanding modern PC titles without running into immediate bottlenecks.
Nvidia still dominates the overall Steam top 30 charts by a wide margin. Cards like the RTX 3060 at 3.92% and the newer RTX 5070 at 3.77% command huge user numbers. The direct rival to AMD, the RTX 5070 Ti, currently holds 1.82% of systems. However, ongoing volatility in global memory costs makes shelf pricing the real battleground. If AMD can keep retail prices steady, the RX 9070 XT could become Team Red’s most successful enthusiast release in years.
