Microsoft has refreshed its mobile lineup with the new Surface Pro 12 inch and Surface Laptop 13 inch. Both devices upgrade to Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Plus processors and raise the base memory standard to 16GB. But these hardware upgrades bring higher starting price tags across the board.
The Surface Pro 12 inch now starts at $1,149.99, while the Surface Laptop 13 inch climbs to $1,199. Microsoft confirmed the changes during its presentation at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit. The higher entry price eliminates the older 8GB tier entirely. Both models now ship with at least 16GB of LPDDR5x memory, with top configurations topping out at 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
The performance foundation rests on Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon X2 Plus platform. Its 6 core CPU delivers a 17% increase in Office application workloads, alongside a graphics improvement exceeding 60%. Artificial intelligence processing relies on an 80 TOPS Hexagon NPU that speeds up local AI inference by 95%. Battery efficiency also gains an 18% improvement over earlier hardware generations.
The Surface Pro 12 inch sticks with a quiet fanless design and introduces an optional black finish. Its 12 inch PixelSense touchscreen operates at a 2196x1464 resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness, which is a 25% bump over the prior model. Microsoft is preloading its Ink Canvas software to handle stylus sketches and automated text summaries, with an optional 5G modem available for mobile workers. Web browsing battery life reaches 13 hours on a single charge.
The fanless Surface Laptop 13 inch carries a 1920x1280 PixelSense touchscreen running at 60Hz with 500 nits of brightness. Battery life reaches 18 hours of web browsing and 22.5 hours of local video playback. Alongside the computers, Microsoft introduced an ambidextrous $79.99 Surface Mouse in black and platinum. The accessory runs on Bluetooth 6.0 and uses an internal haptic motor to vibrate during window snapping and object alignment in Windows 11.
Both devices focus heavily on corporate deployment. Security features include Microsoft Pluton TPM 2.0 and Secured core PC compliance to protect firmware against unauthorized modifications. IT administrators also get access to deployment utilities such as the Surface IT Toolkit and the Surface Management Portal to manage machine fleets remotely.
