Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 alongside a more capable Extreme edition. Built on a 2nm process node, the new chips deliver higher clock speeds and dedicated silicon for running massive AI models on device. The first commercial phones running this hardware will launch before the end of 2026.
Both processors rely on custom Qualcomm Oryon cores. The CPU cluster features 2 prime cores running at 5 GHz and 6 performance cores clocking up to 4 GHz. These cores share a pool of 16 MB Oryon Flex cache memory. The result is a 13% jump in raw CPU speed. At the same time, Qualcomm managed to cut power consumption by 37% compared to the previous generation.
On device artificial intelligence sees a major upgrade. The new neural engine is 35% faster. It can execute local Mixture of Experts models with over 30 billion parameters directly on your phone. This means complex generative tasks no longer need an active internet connection to run smoothly.
Graphics and video performance separate the two flagship tiers. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 brings a 35% boost to graphics processing and includes 12 MB of dedicated cache. It captures video in 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K at 120 frames per second.
The Extreme edition goes even further. Its graphics core receives a 44% speed boost backed by 18 MB of dedicated memory. Qualcomm also added Adreno Matrix Cores for intense machine learning tasks, along with hardware support for Unreal Engine 5 MegaLights. For video creators, it records 8K video at 60 frames per second and slow motion 4K at 240 frames per second.
Device makers can pair either chip with up to 24 GB of fast LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 flash storage. Both platforms handle 4K screens running at 120 Hz or QHD+ panels running at 240 Hz. They also support ultra high resolution camera sensors up to 320 MP, with wired file transfers handled over USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports.
Wireless speeds and satellite access are powered by the Qualcomm X105 modem. The silicon connects directly to 5G Advanced networks and supports direct satellite messaging for off grid emergencies. Local connections feature Wi Fi 8 and Bluetooth 6.0 standards to ensure faster data transfer and lower latency across all connected accessories.
