Xiaomi has previewed the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a foldable phone that claims drop resistance equal to standard flagship devices. The phone introduces the in house Xuanjie O3 processor alongside a reinforced hinge and dual layer glass protection. Xiaomi is preparing to formally debut the device at its autumn launch event next week.
Durability remains the biggest concern for foldable phone buyers. Xiaomi aims to address this directly. Company chief executive Lei Jun confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Fold survives drops from 1.2 meters. Compared to the older MIX Fold 4, the new chassis offers a 258% increase in resistance to sharp impacts and a 214% gain in heavy steel ball drop height tests.
The screen durability relies on a dual layer UTG ultra thin glass setup that reinforces the folding panel. For the exterior panels, Xiaomi placed its proprietary Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 on both the front and rear of the chassis. The structural perimeter is built with 7 series aerospace grade aluminum alloy to resist bending and corner impacts.
Under the hood, the phone marks the debut of the proprietary Xuanjie O3 flagship processor. To handle the mechanical folding action, engineers designed a new generation of the Dragon Bone hinge. The mechanism uses a 3 stage linkage setup with a natural water drop curve that provides full contact protection across the folding area.
Official teaser renders reveal an updated exterior design language. The screen features equal narrow bezels on all 4 sides with rounded elliptical corners for a cleaner display presentation. Around back, the camera housing adopts a runway style oval island resting on a flat wrap around frame. Full pricing and retail configurations will be revealed during the official presentation next week.
