Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Overhauls DMZ Mode with Base Building and Hajin Map

Activision and Infinity Ward have revealed the overhauled DMZ mode for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, setting the extraction shooter in the war torn territory of Hajin. The updated mode introduces a persistent Forward Operating Base where players craft gear using 3D printers and manage operator progression up to level 70. The game is scheduled to launch across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.

Deployments center around a private Forward Operating Base that serves as an off the books command center between matches. Players spend trade points earned from successful missions to upgrade active duty operators with permanent survivalist and combat skills. The base contains modular stations including a firing range, a rotating equipment vendor, and a 3D printer. This printer consumes raw salvage and unique ingredients extracted from the combat zone to produce plate carriers, custom backpacks, and tactical equipment. Players also spend collected currency in the gunsmith to attach weapon parts unlocked through recovered field manuals.

The combat environment covers over 60 named locations across Hajin, a contested region split between abandoned rural outposts and dense urban centers like The Grid and NuriGO Mall. Ground forces face an escalation system where local threat meters rise from low to extreme based on combat noise and player actions. Enemy factions range from basic military infantry and armored units to automated quadruped robotic dogs and combat drone swarms. High value targets include roving squad lieutenants and heavy boss commanders such as the armored Colossus and main battle tanks, which yield specialized crafting ingredients when eliminated.

Infiltration squads progress by completing narrative orders, capturing surface to air missile sites, and securing supply drops across the map. Traversal relies on land, water, and air vehicles, including light tactical trucks, speedboats, and transport helicopters that require active refueling at service stations. Because rival human operators occupy the same exclusion zone, securing high value dog tags or boss loot marks player locations on the tactical map for everyone nearby. Squads must extract their inventory using signal flares, Fulton recovery systems, or heavy transport helicopters before expanding radiation storms overtake the territory.
