Capcom is actively planning the conclusion of the primary Resident Evil storyline over the next 10 years. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi confirmed the long term strategy in a recent interview with Japanese media, detailing how recent remakes and mainline entries connect to an overarching finale. The current saga will reach its climax after several more releases, starting with a remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica scheduled for 2027.
Jun Takeuchi revealed that Capcom established this 10 year roadmap during production of the Resident Evil 2 remake. Historically the publisher produced sequels without mapping out long range narrative goals. The first stage of this structured plan wrapped up earlier this year following the launch of Resident Evil Requiem. Capcom is now moving into the next phase, which involves multiple unannounced titles designed to resolve the ongoing arcs of familiar protagonists.
Capcom selected the release order of its recent remakes with narrative intent. Takeuchi noted that subtle plot alterations across recent modernizations will hold direct relevance as the overarching story approaches its finish. The development team behind the Resident Evil 4 remake is currently handling Resident Evil Code Veronica for a 2027 release. This project aims to clarify the role of Claire Redfield within the expanding canon. While this planned ending will close the book on the existing cast, Capcom plans to continue the broader franchise with new storylines in the future.
