Adobe has updated the mobile version of Lightroom with Open Eyes, a generative AI tool that automatically fixes closed eyes in portraits with 1 tap. The software scans your photo library to match eye color, shape, and lighting from other shots of the same person. Free users can test the tool 2 times before needing an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.
The feature works across iOS, iPadOS, and Android apps. Lightroom automatically spots closed eyes in uploaded portraits and places a Quick Action button directly over the image. Tapping the prompt triggers an algorithm that searches your personal Lightroom library for other images of the subject. This scan pulls accurate data on eye size, iris color, and facial symmetry, blending the eyes into the photo so the lighting and head angles match naturally.
Photoshop Elements offered a similar eye swap tool in the past, but it required users to manually cut and paste eyes from a separate reference photo. Lightroom fully automates the process using generative neural models. Adobe limits free accounts to 2 automated corrections. Once those 2 uses expire, the app prompts users to purchase a paid Creative Cloud plan to continue using the tool.
