Commodore 64C Ultimate Reissues Classic PC with Modern FPGA Hardware

Commodore has reissued its 1986 home computer with the launch of the Commodore 64C Ultimate. The updated system combines original factory molds with modern AMD Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA silicon to maintain 99% compatibility with legacy software and accessories. Systems are available for order in the United States starting at $299.

The computer runs on an AMD Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA board configured to replicate original system behavior. Commodore claims 99% compatibility with vintage game cartridges, legacy joysticks, and physical disk drives. Contemporary connections include HDMI, USB, Ethernet, and Wi Fi networking. System firmware adds direct support for modern USB mice alongside classic control schemes.

Factory production relies on the original 1986 steel molds. The tooling passed through multiple owners over 40 years before returning to active production. This machinery leaves authentic manufacturing marks and surface textures on the plastic shells, matching the physical traits of vintage units.

Commodore offers 3 distinct hardware configurations on its retail website. The BASIC Beige model costs $299 and mirrors the original colorway. The Starlight Edition costs $349, adding integrated lighting and a translucent shell. The top tier Founders Edition retails for $499, featuring 24 karat gold coated trim, golden keys, and a clear chassis.
