DDR5 RAM Prices Surge in Japan with 128GB Kits Passing 3300 USD

Retail memory prices in Japan have jumped to historic highs, with large capacity DDR5 packages seeing massive price increases. Market tracking from Akiba PC shows a 128GB DDR5 6000 kit climbing to 514800 yen, which equals roughly $3365 USD. That single dual module package now costs as much as an entire high tier gaming computer.

The price surge hits hardest on high capacity desktop setups, especially 64GB by 2 configurations totaling 128GB. Following fresh store restocks, this DDR5 6000 kit reached 514800 yen ($3365 USD), up from its earlier retail price of 316980 yen ($2072 USD). That jump represents a 62.4% price increase in a short period. In earlier market checks, the exact same memory configuration sold for just 59800 yen ($391 USD). The current price tag reflects a 760.9% total increase over a 1 year span.

A budget of 500000 yen ($3268 USD) previously bought a complete gaming rig equipped with an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 graphics card. Today, that exact sum only covers a 128GB system memory kit. Standard builds using 64GB total memory face steep costs as well. A 32GB by 2 kit of DDR5 6400 now starts at 139980 yen ($915 USD). A similar 64GB kit of DDR5 5600 sits at 104980 yen ($686 USD), while a DDR5 4800 kit increased to 125800 yen ($822 USD).
