Forza Horizon 2 Runs on PC Through Unofficial Azimuth Project

Development team Almost There Games has released Azimuth, a custom PC launcher that makes Forza Horizon 2 playable on modern computers. The tool translates console system calls to run the title on Windows and Linux at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. Azimuth is available as a free download, though players must provide their own clean game files to play.

Azimuth runs on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux through Proton. The software translates the original Xbox system commands and converts graphics rendering from DirectX 11 to DirectX 12. A gameplay video published on YouTube shows the game running far beyond its original Xbox One limits, achieving 4K output at a steady 60 frames per second on desktop systems and the Steam Deck.

The launcher includes 3 visual presets with improved shadow quality, sharper reflections, and MSAA antialiasing. Users can set custom display resolutions and lock the framerate to either 30 or 60 frames per second. Multiplayer features and Xbox Live achievements remain nonfunctional. Booting the title requires game build 1.0.0.64, and the developers do not distribute the game files.

The project currently sits at preview version 0.9.7. Early software builds exhibit occasional loading freezes and audio glitches. Planned updates include HDR support, improved framerate stability, and wider graphics adjustments. The Azimuth utility remains free to download for anyone with access to the required disc image.
