Google has officially introduced the Fitbit Edge, updating its fitness tracker lineup with a 1.34 inch AMOLED screen and improved satellite tracking. The wearable incorporates an altimeter alongside standard health sensors, delivering up to 7 days of operational runtime on a single charge. The device is currently available for pre order through the Google Store starting at $179.99.
The Fitbit Edge features an aluminum frame measuring 11.5 millimeters thick, paired with a physical side button for manual navigation. Google covers the 1.34 inch AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass 3, expanding screen area by 46% compared to the older Charge 6. Water and dust protection meets IP68 and 5 ATM standards, allowing the tracker to handle swimming and outdoor workouts.
Google upgraded the satellite positioning system to deliver 40% higher GPS accuracy over earlier generations. An internal sensor package contains an optical heart rate monitor, electrocardiogram capabilities, blood oxygen tracking, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, a skin temperature reader, and a dedicated altimeter. The software tracks 50 distinct workout categories, syncs heart rate metrics to compatible gym machinery, and automatically identifies 100 physical activities. Built in artificial intelligence routines adjust to user movement patterns over time.
Smart functions include notification mirroring, music controls across third party streaming apps, alarms, timers, and navigation prompts synchronized with Google Maps. The device pairs with Android and iOS smartphones, though message replies remain exclusive to Android users. Google did not include an NFC chip for contactless payments. Battery life reaches 7 days under standard use, dropping to 2 days when using the Always On Display. A 5 minute quick charge adds roughly 24 hours of use, while a complete recharge requires 90 minutes.
Google set the base price for the Fitbit Edge at $179.99. Optional wristbands include a silicone sport strap for $39.99, a magnetic band for $59.99, and a metal link bracelet for $149.99. A dedicated Stephen Curry Special Edition version is also available for $219.99.
