iPhone Duo Matte Screen Survives Rigorous Scratch and Pressure Testing

Apple brought a matte nanotextured panel to the iPhone Duo, marking its first foldable device with Apple Pencil support. Independent stress testing from YouTube channel HTX Studio confirms the display resists scratches far better than traditional glossy foldable screens. The panel handled standard wear up to a 6H hardness rating before showing faint surface marks.

HTX Studio tested the panel using pencils rated from 6B to 8H with a constant pressure of 100 grams, which equals roughly 1 newton of force. Faint marks surfaced only at 6H, remaining invisible unless viewed under direct light at sharp angles, with zero tactile grooving. Deeper grooves that users could feel with a fingernail did not appear until the 8H mark. Most competing foldable phones with standard glossy screens develop deep gouges at 5H, giving the iPhone Duo a clear durability edge for stylus users.

The matte finish also reduces the visual impact of the center screen crease by eliminating harsh light reflections. Beneath the nanotextured outer layer, Apple stacked ultra thin glass sheets to protect against direct impacts. Laboratory pressure tests revealed the screen withstands focused point pressure up to 15 newtons, or roughly 1.5 kilograms of force. Durability assessments also evaluated the titanium hinge mechanism to ensure structural integrity over repeated folding cycles.
