Netflix has greenlit a live action series adaptation of PUBG with Donald Glover attached to star and lead production. The creator behind Atlanta will write, direct, and executive produce the project alongside his brother Stephen Glover. Netflix has not yet revealed plot details, supporting cast members, or a target release window.
Netflix secured the rights to the battle royale adaptation following prolonged studio negotiations. Donald Glover and Stephen Glover previously partnered on the series Atlanta, which earned Donald Glover 2 Emmy awards for acting and directing. The creative team has not disclosed how the 100 player survival setup of the game will translate into an episodic narrative format.
This project marks the second public push to bring the game to television. In 2021 publisher Krafton announced an animated project helmed by Castlevania producer Adi Shankar, though that production stalled without subsequent updates. The Netflix deal represents the first concrete move to transition the franchise into live action streaming television.
