Nintendo has published an official battery replacement guide on its European support portal for the Switch 2 console. The documentation outlines an adhesive free disassembly method requiring only a standard PH00 screwdriver. Official replacement battery packs have not yet appeared on store shelves.
Official self repair applies exclusively to the hardware revision labeled BEE 001. Owners need a PH00 Phillips screwdriver alongside an authentic BEE 003 power cell to perform the swap. The process requires no specialized heating pads or solvent solutions.
The repair starts by powering down the unit and ejecting all game cards, microSD Express cards, and Joy Con 2 controllers. Disassembly requires removing 5 exterior screws positioned across the back, bottom, and top plates. Nintendo warns that the rear panel fasteners use factory threadlocker compound, requiring technicians to hold the screwdriver perpendicular and apply firm downward pressure to avoid stripping the screw heads.
Removing 4 additional side screws allows the rear enclosure to lift off cleanly. The power cell connects directly through spring loaded metallic contact pads rather than delicate ribbon cables, allowing users to lift the old unit out without unplugging connectors. The battery compartment features a polarized shape that prevents backwards installation, and the entire internal assembly avoids glue entirely to eliminate accidental puncture risks.
Nintendo advises inspecting top control buttons and internal microphones before final closure to ensure proper physical alignment. Technicians must also verify that loose fasteners have not attached to internal speaker magnets prior to securing the rear shell.
