CD Projekt RED has confirmed that its upcoming live action Cyberpunk film with Paramount Pictures will tell a completely original story rather than adapting the events of the video game. The production bypasses the journey of V and Johnny Silverhand to explore an entirely separate narrative set within Night City. The project remains in early development with no director, writer, or cast currently attached.
CD Projekt RED joint chief executive Michal Nowakowski clarified that the studio wants to expand the universe rather than rehash familiar plotlines. The company originally partnered with Anonymous Content back in 2023, but that agreement lapsed without results, leading to a new production deal with Paramount Pictures. Veteran Hollywood producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to produce the film, though filming schedules and premiere windows remain unannounced.
The studio continues to develop the Cyberpunk property across multiple entertainment mediums. Lifetime sales for the video game recently passed 40,000,000 copies worldwide. CD Projekt RED also has a direct game sequel in active development under the codename Project Orion, while season 2 of the animated series Cyberpunk Edgerunners prepares to premiere on Netflix.
