AMD's Newest Desktop Processor, the Ryzen 9 9900X, Undergoes First Tests
Leaked benchmarks for AMD's yet-to-be-released Ryzen 9000 series processor, specifically the Ryzen 9 9900X, have surfaced online, and the results are raising eyebrows.
Fewer Cores, Higher Performance?
While competitors like Intel's i7-147000 and Core i9-14900K boast 20 and 24 cores respectively, the new Ryzen 9 9900X will feature 12 Zen 5 cores. Despite this, early reports suggest that AMD is positioning this processor as a rival to Intel's top-tier offering.
In Cinebench R23 tests, the Ryzen 9 9900X scores an impressive 33,000 points with standard settings. Enabling Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) pushes the score to 34,500, a remarkable 14% and 18% improvement over the Ryzen 9 7900X in both scenarios. Notably, the new CPU achieves this with a lower TDP, even though both processors share the same core count and 5.6 GHz maximum frequency.
Compared to Intel's Core i7-14700K, the 9900X scores slightly lower. However, it's important to consider the significant difference in core count and TDP - the Ryzen boasts a 170W TDP compared to Intel's 253W.
The Ryzen 9000 Series Lineup
In addition to the Ryzen 9 9900X, the AMD Ryzen 9000 series will reportedly include the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X, the 8-core Ryzen 9 9700X, and the 6-core Ryzen 9 9600X.
