Capcom Confirms Resident Evil 9, But Don't Expect to See It Anytime Soon
Following the success of Resident Evil Village, fans had little doubt that Capcom would continue the series. Now, it's officially been confirmed – though, only in words for now.
The announcement came during Capcom's "Capcom Next Summer 2024" presentation. Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7, will be at the helm of the new installment. He shared a few brief words about the upcoming project:
"We are creating a new Resident Evil. It was very difficult to understand what to do after the seventh part, but I found an idea. Honestly, it seems very curious. I can’t reveal all the details yet, but I hope you look forward to the day when I can."
Nakanishi is known for successfully rebooting the series after the critical and commercial disappointments of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, which leaned heavily into action over survival horror. He believes the franchise's strength lies in its ability to terrify players.
According to industry insider Dusk Golem, the game has been in development for over seven years and may feature a more open world than previous entries. It is not expected to have any direct ties to Village.
