Honor's New 400 Series Lands: AI Brains, New Designs, and Camera Brawn
Get ready for a fresh wave of innovation from Honor. The company has just launched its new N series flagship phones, the Honor 400 and the higher-end Honor 400 Pro. The phones, joining the already released Honor 400 Lite, are set to shake up the premium mid-range and budget flagship markets with some gorgeous designs, interesting camera hardware, and a healthy dose of AI intelligence.
Even though the three phones look similar to one another like twins, Honor has wisely given each its own unique personality. Let's see what the newcomers bring.
Welcome the Honor 400: Style, a Stunning Screen, and Intelligent AI
The Honor 400 follows a sleek posture with its flat body, a design aspect it shares with the Lite version. But it does take a deviation from adding the Lite's AI camera button and opting for a simple circular punch-hole for its front camera, instead of a pill-shaped notch. The back camera module also stands out, a trapezium shape with gently rounded edges.
A Stunning Show
Your eyes are in for a thrill with the Honor 400's 6.55-inch flat display. It's not just about the sharp 2736 × 1264 resolution or the silky 120Hz refresh rate; this screen can hit an incredible peak brightness of 5,000 nits. Honor hasn't been frugal when it comes to eye comfort either, loading in features like 3,840Hz PWM dimming, motion sickness relief, low blue light tech, and an ultra-dark mode. And it's also so convenient – it works even if you have wet hands or are wearing gloves.
Under the Hood and Behind the Lens
Driving the Honor 400 is the powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, the same one used in the Honor 200. You'll have options when it comes to storage and memory: 8GB of RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot available for expansion.
On cameras, the Honor 400 takes an interesting turn from the previous one. It now features a dual-camera system at the rear: a gigantic 200MP primary sensor (f/1.9 with OIS) and a 12MP (f/2.2) 112° ultra-wide-angle camera which is also responsible for macro photography. That is a break from the Honor 200's triple camera setup that included a telephoto lens. The selfie camera remains a high-res 50MP sensor for your selfies.
AI Magic in Your Pocket
As advertised by Honor, AI plays a big part in the experience. You have useful camera functions like an AI eraser to remove unwanted objects or people from your photos. More intriguingly, there's an 'AI Image to Video' feature – a world first on a smartphone – that is capable of converting your static images into colorful videos. Another pleasant feature is 'Moving Photo Collage,' which can splice together multiple motion photos into engaging visual stories.
Battery, Software, and Durability
European and UK Honor 400 receive a 5,300mAh silicon-carbon battery with 66W charging. In an interesting twist, the Chinese version comes with a larger 7,200mAh battery, and an international model with a 6,000mAh battery and 80W charging is planned. Other basics include stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and Dual SIM support.
Software-wise, the Honor 400 operates MagicOS 9.0, which is based on the newest Android 15. And here's fantastic news for veteran users: Honor is assuring a whopping 6 years of Android updates and 6 years of security updates. AI also doesn't stop at the camera, with additions such as Magic Portal 2.0 (Honor's version of Circle-to-Search), AI recorder, AI translation, and AI deepfake detection.
Worried about dropping it unintentionally. The Honor 400 features SGS 5-drop resistance and IP65 water and dust resistance. It's available in Midnight Black, Meteor Silver, and Desert Gold colors. Prices start at €499 for the 256GB version and go up to €549 for the 512GB version in Europe. Prices in the UK are £399 and £449 respectively.
Say Hello to the Honor 400 Pro: Flagship Power, Premium Feel
Rising through the ranks, we have the Honor 400 Pro. This phone serves as a tantalizing, less expensive alternative to the high-end Magic7 Pro, bringing last year's flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor into the mix, as well as a powerful 200MP camera system and support for fast charging.
The Honor 400 Pro aims to impress with its appearance. Its curvaceous body is a welcome respite from the many flat-sided phones on the market. It has an unusually shaped camera hump and pill-shaped punch-hole for its front screen as well, so it stands out visually. While not officially classed, Honor says it has IP68 and IP69 levels of water and dust resistance, as well as SGS 5-star drop and crush resistance – yes, this one's tough.
Immersive Visuals
Pro's version features a breathtaking 6.7-inch quad-curved display with buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate and 2800 × 1280 resolution. Like its sibling, it can manage to record that mind-boggling 5,000 nits peak brightness. Pill-shaped notch holds two front cameras; Honor has a 50MP portrait selfie camera on the list, with the second most likely being a depth sensor.
All the outstanding display protection features of the standard Honor 400, such as 3,840Hz PWM dimming, ultra-dark mode, and AI circadian night display, are present here as well.
Pro-Level Performance and Photography
At its core, the Honor 400 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and made for heavy use. It features 12GB of RAM and configurations for 256GB or 512GB of non-expandable storage. The camera configuration is a triple threat: a main 200MP sensor (f/1.9, 1/1.4'' with OIS), a 50MP Sony IMX856 AI telephoto lens (also with OIS), and a 12MP (f/2.2) ultrawide camera that serves double duty for macro photography.
The AI camera and editing suite is vast. You're also offered the AI eraser, AI upscaling, AI cutout, 'AI Image to Video,' AI motion-sensing capture, film simulation, Harcourt portrait mode, and 'Moving Photo Collage.' It even supports sharing live photos with other Android phones and iPhones.
Battery and Longevity
The Honor 400 Pro is powered by a 5,300mAh silicon-carbon battery that can support blazing-fast 100W wired Honor SuperCharge and 50W wireless Honor SuperCharge. While the battery is slightly larger compared to the Honor 200 Pro, the wireless charging rate falls from last gen's 66W.
Similar to the standard model, the Pro is powered by MagicOS 9 (Android 15) and gets to enjoy that incredible 6 years of Android OS updates and 6 years of security patches. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and dual SIM support round off the connectivity.
Pricing and Availability for the Pro
The Honor 400 Pro is available to buy today in Midnight Black and Lunar Grey. It costs £699.99 in the UK and €799 in Europe. Early birds in the UK also receive a free Honor Choice Earbuds Clip and a 100W Honor SuperCharge adapter, along with a £150 voucher and a free screen replacement in one for 180 days. That's a very good deal.
It looks like Honor is committed to bringing a strong N series this year, and both the 400 and 400 Pro provide a great amount of phone for its price. Which one appeals to you.
