Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco just put out a big look at their new action RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. They showed off a clip from an early version on a PC. It showed how you fight when you're a human and a vampire, and how your quest changes when it's day or night.
The game looks great. They showed the main guy, Coen, going around Svartrau, a big, busy city like Novigrad from The Witcher III, after fighting some bad guys first.
A big thing in The Blood of Dawnwalker is how different it is to play in the day versus the night. During the day, the old world looks usual, hiding the fact that vampires are there. At night, you see things that were hidden.
Coen is part human and part vampire:
- In the day: Coen fights with a sword and uses magic runes (marks on his skin). Using magic takes away some of his health.
- At night: Coen uses vampire powers like deadly claws and "Shadowstep" to move on roofs. He also has to keep his need for blood in check. Players can deal with this by drinking blood from foes, folks, or animals or by using blood vials.
If you don't keep the blood need in check, Coen gets weak and might kill key folks by mistake, changing how the story goes. Rebel Wolves talks about a "story sandbox" where what you do changes the story, not just sticking to main or side tasks.
The game uses a fighting style where you pick from four ways to strike, kind of like For Honor. This style is meant for real-looking fights and smart play, making you watch how foes move, block right, and hit back at the right time.
They ended the game look with Coen taking on a vampire boss, Xanthe. Rebel Wolves said players can try to beat bosses, even the last one, early, but it's very hard. Coen has 30 days to save his family, seen more as a thing to use well than just a countdown.
Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco said The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to come out in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
