Fairphone just showed off its new phone, the Fairphone 6. This phone keeps their style of parts you can fix yourself but now has new bits and better parts. The company in Amsterdam keeps pushing for fair pay and good work places and says this new phone uses more stuff that's recycled and sourced right.
Sticking to its roots, the Fairphone 6 lets you swap out broken parts. You can get new parts like screens, cameras, batteries, speakers, and back covers from their site. You can fix them up with a screwdriver.
There's now a way to add things to the back like a card holder, finger loop, or a strap.
Here's what's new in the Fairphone 6 compared to the Fairphone 5:
- Screen: A bit smaller at 6.31 inches, better P-OLED tech with 1116 x 2484 sharpness, faster at 120Hz, and tough Gorilla Glass 7i. It's brighter too, from 800 to 1400 nits.
- Guts and Memory: Runs on a new Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, with 8GB of fast LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB internal space. You can add up to 2TB with a microSD card.
- Back Cameras: Main camera is 50MP with good image stablizing tech, records 4K video. The wide cam is 13MP now, also with stabilizing and can do close-up shots. Has another sensor for depth.
- Front Camera: 32MP for selfies, it focuses itself and keeps shots steadier.
- Battery: Bigger at 4,415mAh, still charges at 30W.
- Sounds and More: Stereo speakers (no headphone jack), fast Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, NFC, can use two SIM cards, fingerprint and face unlocking, can handle some dust and water.
The new Fairphone 6 comes with Android 15 and works with Google's smart AI. The brand promises 8 years of software updates and at least 7 Android upgrades. You can also get it with /e/OS.
A cool new thing is "Fairphone Moments". Toggle a lime switch to only show five apps you pick. You can make profiles for this mode too.
You can buy the Fairphone 6 now in white, green, or black. The Android version is around €599 ($695), and the /e/OS version is about €649 ($753).
