The GPD MicroPC 2 boasts significant performance enhancements over its predecessor. It is powered by an Intel N250 four-core Alder Lake-N processor, offering a substantial upgrade from the previous Celeron chip. This is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5-4800 RAM, providing faster and greater memory capacity compared to the older LPDDR4.
Storage is handled by a speedy 512GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD. This ensures rapid load times and boot speeds, a marked improvement over the slower SATA storage solutions found in older models, contributing to a more responsive overall user experience.
The design of the MicroPC 2 features a modernized and more user-friendly form factor. It includes a larger and clearer 7-inch touchscreen display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, stepping up from the 6-inch, 720p non-touch screen of the first model.
A notable new addition is the swivel hinge, allowing the screen to fold back over the keyboard. This transformation turns the device into a small, functional tablet. Despite the screen upgrades, it retains the signature input methods: a compact keyboard optimized for thumb typing and a small touchpad conveniently located on the right side for cursor control.
Connectivity options on the GPD MicroPC 2 see major improvements, though with one key omission. The RJ45 Ethernet port is upgraded to a much faster 2.5 GbE standard from the previous Gigabit speed. USB ports are enhanced with faster USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and Type-A ports, capable of 10 Gbps speeds.
Wireless connectivity is also updated to support WiFi 6 for faster and more reliable wireless networking, along with Bluetooth 5. However, the RS-232 serial port, a feature present in the original MicroPC that was crucial for specific IT tasks, has been removed in the MicroPC 2.
The GPD MicroPC 2 is currently available for backing on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform. The early bird price is set at $495, representing an 18% discount off its anticipated retail price of approximately $600. Shipping is expected to begin by September 2025.
For those who prefer not to use crowdfunding, the online retailer DroiX is also accepting pre-orders for the MicroPC 2 at a price of $551, offering an alternative purchase channel.
