iPhone 17 Air Chipset Details Emerge Amid Conflicting A19 Pro Leaks and Rumors

New Info on iPhone 17 Air Chipset Comes Out Amid Mixed Leaks

Talk about Apple's next iPhone 17 set shows a new 'Air' model might take over for the 'Plus' type. It will sit between the basic and Pro units, but mixed news has popped up about which chip it will have.

Rumor A Less Strong A19 Pro Chip for the iPhone 17 Air

A big tipster on Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital, says the iPhone 17 Air will have the A19 Pro chip. But, it will have a 5-core GPU, not the full 6-core GPU seen in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. This setup would mean a bit less graphic power for the Air, but most users might not see much change, and it keeps the chip working well.

Analysts' Mixed Words Add to the Doubt

This view is met with doubt by other tech insiders. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks the iPhone 17 Air will use the regular A19 chip, just like the base iPhone 17. Kuo had said before that the Air might even use last year's A18 chip. Analyst Jeff Pu joins in by saying the base iPhone 17 will have the A18 chip, which makes it look like the Air could get a better chip to stand out.

Proof Against Fake A19 Pro Performance Leak

Also, a Geekbench image that showed great A19 Pro scores was shown to be fake. This fake leak had the A19 Pro with an 80% better multi-core score than the A18 Pro, even beating Apple's M4 chip. The proof that this is fake is clear:

  • The jump in power from one A-series chip to the next has never been that big.
  • The biggest sign of the fake is the software version shown. The image said 'iOS 27', but the right version for the iPhone 17 would be iOS 26.
  • We don't get official power tests until a product is launched.

End Words Wait for Real Info

The details we have on the iPhone 17 Air's parts come from early, mixed rumors. The thought of a changed A19 Pro chip makes sense for making it different, but it's not yet sure. Any performance leaks before the real launch should be taken with a lot of doubt. Apple should show the iPhone 17 line in September, and that's when all real details will come out.
