OpenAI to Add Shopping to ChatGPT
OpenAI is making a big update to ChatGPT that will let it take care of product orders on its own, cutting out the need to go to other online stores. The Financial Times says this is part of a new way to make money, where OpenAI will get a fee from sellers for each buy made on the service, moving away from just making money with subscriptions.
Shopify Work
Shopify, the online store firm, is a main partner in this project. They started to work together in spring. A payment system is now being tested, and some brands are already changing their products for it.
This makes ChatGPT a strong rival to search engines like Google, as folks can look for and buy stuff in one spot.
New AI Marketing and Ad Effects
This change helps a new marketing idea called AIO (Artificial Intelligence Optimization) grow. It is about pushing products in AI chat spots instead of normal search engines.
Experts in the field are talking about what this might do to the search ad world. If more people use ChatGPT to find and buy things, it may cut the need for search ads. Even though OpenAI said before that it wouldn't start using ads, they haven't said no to making money from affiliate links. They might get a 2% cut on buys from its Deep Research tool.
What it Does Now and What's Next
Right now, ChatGPT offers product tips based on what users like. It doesn't think about price or how fast you get something, although it might get better at this soon.
