Ayaneo Launches Pocket DS Handheld with Dual Screens and Starting Price of $399

Ayaneo has launched the Pocket DS, its second clamshell Android gaming handheld this year. The device features dual displays, a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, and a massive kit of 8,000 mAh battery. The Indiegogo campaign has begun with a starting price of $399.

Core Hardware and Performance

The Pocket DS runs on the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset-same one found in the Ayaneo Pocket S, AYANEO Pocket ACE ,Ayaneo Pocket EVO and Pocket DMG. This is in contrast to the newer Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 used in the Pocket S2 lineup. To keep its entry price low, the base model of the Pocket DS features 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2
  • Memory/Storage Tiers: Configurations are available with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Dual-Display Specifications

The main attraction of the Pocket DS is its dual-screen design, which includes a high-end main display and a suitably functional secondary panel.

  • Primary Display: 7 inches with an OLED panel, 1080p resolution, 165 Hz refresh rate, and 800 nits peak brightness.
  • Secondary Display: 5-inch IPS panel with a 1024 x 768 resolution and 550 nits peak brightness.

Battery, Cooling and Availability

An 8,000 mAh battery powers the device, and Ayaneo claims to have "PC-grade cooling" in place to manage the temperature. The starting price is $399, half of the company's previous dual-screen offering, the Flip 1S DS.

  • Battery: 8,000 mAh
  • Platform: Available for backing via Indiegogo.
  • Shipping: Ayaneo expects it will begin to ship orders in October.
