Framework 16 Laptop Launched with Updated AMD CPUs and an Optional NVIDIA RTX 5070 Graphics Option
The Framework 16 laptop received a large upgrade from Framework. New AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processor options were announced, along with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics module option, expanding the current offering of AMD Radeon.
Core Hardware Improvements
These are the central improvements for the new Framework 16, which are processing and graphical capabilities.
- new processors: AMD Ryzen AI 300 series CPUs are now an option for the laptop, including the top-of-the-range Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 7 350.
- new graphics module: An NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 for laptops has been introduced that adds to the existing Radeon RX 7700S module.
- dGPU alternative: For users who do not require the aid of a dedicated GPU, the graphics bay can also be doubled for two additional storage expansion slots.
Modularization, Power, and Pricing
True to Framework's philosophy, the GPUs are super modular and can be changed at will. The individual graphics modules are priced separately:
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Module : $700
- AMD Radeon RX 7700S Module : $400
To power these high-end components, the new Framework 16 ships with a 240 Watt USB-PD charger. The laptop is also capable of receiving power and outputting video simultaneously through a USB-C connection to a monitor, although this is less effective than the dedicated charger.
The high-end configuration with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 5070, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB storage, and 240W charger will cost $2,806.
Other Significant Improvements
This refresh comes with some other significant upgrades:
- Wi-Fi 7 support
- High-end 1080p camera
- An 85 Wh battery
Availability
The new Framework 16 is now available for pre-order on the company's official website. The above-mentioned high-end configuration requires a deposit of $100.
