GPD Win 5 Uses AMD's 'Strix Halo' for Top Handheld Play
The new GPD Win 5 is one of the early gaming handhelds to use AMD's top-level Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 "Strix Halo" APU. The early tests of this device show that its built-in Radeon 8060S graphics can get near the power of a separate GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card.
'Strix Halo' Performance Tests
Tests on the GPD Win 5, done with a 70W max TDP, give good results for the 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 APU. In tests focused on graphics, the built-in Radeon 8060S got 9,680 points in 3DMark Time Spy Graphics. This is about 15% less than the 11,413 points of a GeForce RTX 4060. These numbers show the handheld can play new games at 1080p with high settings, with a test showing more than 80 FPS in Black Myth: Wukong.
CPU tests are also strong:
- CPU-Z: 771 points (single-core) and 12,678 points (multi-core).
- Cinebench R23: 30,495 points (multi-core).
Device Look, Heat, and Battery
The small GPD Win 5 has two big blower-style fans for cooling. Under full game play, the device runs at 70-80 degrees Celsius. This is normal for such a small shape. Yet, ones like the new AYANEO NEXT 2 might cool better.
To keep the battery going, the GPD Win 5 uses a 5170mAh battery pack on the back. This pack adds 340 grams to the main weight of 570 grams, making it heavier for more play time. The handheld needs a 180W power adapter.

Models and Extras
The GPD Win 5 will come in two models at start. The best one has the AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 APU with at least 64 GB memory. A cheaper model will have a Ryzen AI MAX 385 APU.
The device will also come with a dock for more connections with a USB Type-C port, an HDMI port, three USB Type-A ports, and an Ethernet port.
