NVIDIA Unveils GPU App G-Assist with Major Enhancements at the Gamescom Event
NVIDIA is outfitting its software ecosystem with major changes to Project G-Assist and the NVIDIA App. Announced at Gamescom, G-Assist upgrades include a more efficient on-device AI model, broader GPU support, and some of the most requested features, including Global DLSS Overrides and Smooth Motion, in the NVIDIA App.
Project G-Assist Touches New Heights in Speed and Ease of Use
The desk-bound on-device voice command assistant, Project G-Assist, has been upgraded to further benefit PC users in terms of practicality and efficiency. Some of the major advances include:
- More Efficient AI Model: The new on-device AI model uses 40% less VRAM than the previous model. Therefore, the on-device AI is faster and much more accurate in its responses to voice and text commands.
- Broad Hardware Support: Because of its smaller memory footprint, G-Assist is now accessible on all RTX GPUs with 6GB of VRAM or more, including laptops. This significantly widens its potential user base from the previous requirement of 12GB or more.
- Enhanced System Control: Users can now run performance diagnostics, chart frame rates and temperatures, and adjust GPU or peripheral settings directly through G-Assist.
- Laptop Commands: An update in September will introduce commands specifically for G-Assist laptop commands for managing BatteryBoost and Battery OPS settings.
- G-Assist Plug-In Hub via mod.io: The new G-Assist Plug-In Hub developed in partnership with mod.io gives users a simple interface to search for, download, and manage plugins to expand the assistant's capabilities.
Adding More Features to the NVIDIA App
NVIDIA App will not be left without a heavy update, and new features and legacy settings will be incorporated to fulfill user requests.
Global DLSS Overrides and Smooth Motion
- Global DLSS Overrides: Users can now enable global DLSS Super Resolution or Frame Generation profiles across hundreds of titles so that DLSS gains can be enjoyed in games that do not officially support the technology.
- Smooth Motion: Smooth Motion has now found its way into the NVIDIA App on RTX 40 series GPUs after having previously been available in beta driver form. This driver-level frame generation technology will elevate the smoothness of games that do not have a native DLSS capability.
Legacy Control Panel Settings Integration
This legacy NVIDIA Control Panel feature many users have requested to see integrated into the NVIDIA App.
- Extra 3D Settings: Ten old custom game settings will be added, including Anisotropic Filtering, Anti-Aliasing, and Ambient Occlusion.
- Support for NVIDIA Surround: NVIDIA Surround now has support within the App.
Availability
Starting August 19, BETA users can access the new NVIDIA App. By public release, all accounts will get the app a week afterward. Project G-Assist requires users to be on the latest Game Ready Driver and an installation of the NVIDIA App, from which the assistant can then be downloaded from the home screen.
