Samsung Increases Odyssey G7 Series with New Large-format Models at Gamescom
Two new large format Odyssey G7 (G75F) monitors were unveiled by Samsung at Gamescom. The announcement includes both a 40-inch ultrawide model and a standard 37-inch 16:9 version, all built with VA panel technology and accompanied by other gaming-centric traits.
40-inch vs. 37-inch G7 Key Differences
Both fall under the G75F model line but are intended for diverse applications and preferences. These two models essentially differ in size, resolution, and refresh rate.
- The 40-inch Odyssey G7 is an ultrawide monitor that offers a 21:9 aspect ratio, a 5,120 x 2,160 resolution, and a maximum refresh rate of 180 Hz.
- The 37-inch Odyssey G7 features standard 16:9 aspect ratio, a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, and a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz.
Common Features and VA Panel Technology
Both new Odyssey G7 models are engineered using VA panels, which tend to produce very deep blacks and extremely high contrast ratios. They also boast a very similar set of core attributes attached to enhancing the gaming experience:
- HDR10+ Gaming: Optimal HDR performance with adaptations in games.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Pro: Reduces screen tearing and stutter for smoother gameplay.
- CoreSync: Synchronizes the monitor's ambient backlight with on screen colors.
- Auto Source Switch+: Automatically detects and switches to a new powered device on.
- Connectivity: Includes one DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 ports.
- Ergonomics: Height Adjustment Stand (HAS) for tilt and swivel adjustment.
Although, VA panels are considered to have better contrast and it is not high-priced as an IPS panel, the color gamut can sometimes be smaller than an IPS panel, and pixel transitions are normally slow, which sometimes can last cause motion blur during very fast-paced scenes
