Microsoft Adds Gaming Copilot AI Integration to Xbox App for Windows 11

Microsoft has launched its worldwide Gaming Copilot feature, an AI-based virtual assistant within the Xbox app on Windows 11. This tool allows players to go through gameplay without being provided with pure "cheat codes".

How Gaming Copilot Actually Works

To enjoy this feature, one must have the Xbox app installed. The AI assistant can be accessed through the Game Bar overlay that enables the player to get help without having to minimize the game. The system is designed to "see" what is happening on the screen and provide an appropriate, context-sensitive actual help.

Top Features of AI Assistant

Microsoft asserts that Gaming Copilot has a few utilities that are meant to help the player:

  • Awareness of the Context: The assistant can respond to questions regarding what is currently being portrayed on the screen.
  • Gameplay Guidance: It can present information on in-game objects or NPCs and suggest techniques for vanquishing foes.
  • Game Suggestions: Based on the criteria specified by users, this AI can provide recommendations for games.
  • Back Story and Lore: Players can ask questions regarding a character's history, e.g., when this character was first introduced in a game.
  • Achievement Help: Gaming Copilot is able to suggest ways of unlocking achievements while viewing the achievements list.

Availability and Future Plans

The Gaming Copilot is being deployed globally except in mainland China and is available to users aged 18 and over, determined per the Microsoft account information. The source noted that at the time of writing, the feature was also unavailable on their PC with a Russian IP address and account region, so the rollout may be gradual at best.

Future plans: In the future, Microsoft plans to bring the assistant to the Xbox mobile app and Xbox consoles, including portable models.
