Crown Jewel Handheld Powered by AMD Strix Halo OneXPlayer Unveils OneXfly Apex

After months of speculation and leaks, OneXPlayer has formally introduced its next-generation flagship gaming handheld, OneXfly Apex. This device will be powered by AMD's high-performance "Strix Halo" APU, with OneXPlayer being the third name to adopt the still-nascent platform for the handheld.

Core Specifications and Performance

Handhelds are expected to deliver leading performance from the best mobile processor from AMD.

  • Processor: Ryzen AI Max+ 395 based on Zen 5 architecture with 16 cores and 32 threads.
  • Graphics: Integrated graphics come courtesy of the 40 Compute Units of Radeon 8060S built on the RDNA 3.5 architecture.
  • Power and Cooling: A maximum of 120W for the user to get maximum performance from the portable. To dissipate this heat at such high power settings, OneXPlayer has placed a whisper-quiet "Silent Liquid Cooling" system within the chassis.
  • Display: 8-inches with 120Hz and VRR support.
  • Battery: An 85Wh removable battery is expected to be used in the OneXfly Apex.

Design and Control Features

The OneXfly Apex retains its traditional handheld look, but with some next-generation control systems. The control set includes the regular ABXY face buttons, two joysticks, a D-Pad, and multi-stage triggers that can be adjusted to define both analog and microswitch trigger operation.

For storage, the mini-SSD is being touted as the winner, while more information concerning other specifications are yet to be revealed.

Market Position

While OneXPlayer is the third company to announce a Strix Halo-based handheld, it may turn out to be the second in line to market. With GPD having officially unwound their Strix Halo device, WIN 5, OneXPlayer could be getting its OneXfly Apex before competitor AYANEO ever gets the chance.
