Big 'Bully Online' Modification Plans to Draw Multiplayer Free Roam

Another ambitious modding project, this Bully Online mod is being developed for the PC version of Bully Scholarship Edition. The mod will allow full-scale multiplayer capabilities in the game, allowing users to explore Bullworth Academy and its town with others.

Multiplayer extend beyond original

Although Scholarship Edition had a two-player mode on consoles, it was strictly limited to class minigames. Bully Online purports to be at least an order of magnitude grander in that it is going to be built around a new role-playing system.

  • Free-roam Players may explore the game world in the company of their friends.
  • Inventory and economy All players will earn money through objectives, minigames, or trading with a "fully fleshed out inventory system."
  • Purchasable assets money can be used to buy houses, weapons, vehicles and other items.
  • Security of Vehicles Unique keys are supplied for each purchased vehicle, allowing the owner to lock it - thus securing it from theft by others.

New Instanced Minigames

The mod is going to add different minigames that have specifically been designed for multiplayer. These activities will be "instanced;" which means that they will take place in separate sessions to avoid griefing or conflicts with players in the main free-roam world.

  • Rat Wars a team-based shoote mode where players control oversized cartoon rats with guns;
  • Racing multiplayer races personalized vehicles and tracks.

All of this is enabled due to the DSL script loader plugin that permits the mod team to implement server connectivity and custom scripts.

Benefits of Early Access and Sponsor

The private official server will launch in December for supporters who contribute to the project via Ko-Fi. Benefits that come from early access include a lot of in-game and community perks for supporters:

  • Exclusive developer updates. We'll share videos and screenshots to let you see what we've been up to.
  • Custom in-game name tag colors using our colorizer.
  • In-game digital camera with 10 shareable photo slots.
  • Priority access to join full servers.
  • A dedicated Discord role and private chat with the development team.

Uncertain Future Rockstar's Stance on Mods

The final vision for the project is a public release after the early access period is over. However, the future of this project remains unsure considering publisher Rockstar Games' past records of shutting down ambitious modding projects. The most noteworthy example in the past would be the Liberty City Preservation Project, which was aimed at transferring the map of Grand Theft Auto IV into Grand Theft Auto V.
