PNY CS3250 SSD Introduction Boasting Blazing-Fast PCIe 5.0 Speeds

High performance SSD of PNY introduced under the name of CS3250 was created through PCIe 5.0 interface at extremely high data transfer rates. Its M.2 drive has 3D flash storage within it, and for that, it is available at a reasonably affordable price tag.

Performance and Speed Breakdown

CS3250 has up to 14,900 MB/s for read speed at most. According to the configuration, it varies slightly in terms of maximum write speed with regards to capacity:

  • 2 TB Model: Up to 14,000 MB/s
  • 1 TB Model: Up to 13,500 MB/s

However, they are primarily meant for sequential data transfers. Minor difference is again suggested by the manufacturer in write speed between 1 TB and 2 TB models which is very unlikely to be felt in actual usage.

Technical specifications and build

The PNY CS3250 is compliant with the new SSD standards to maintain this performance:

  • Form factor: M.2 2280
  • Interface: PCIe 5.0, four lanes (x4)
  • Storage Type: 3D Flash Memory
  • Durability: Rated for 1,500,000 operating hours (MTBF).

Although the SSD has 3D flash, information about DRAM cache has not been provided by PNY. The presence and size of a cache may play a role to sustained performance as a significant drop in transfer rate will be observed once it is full.

Pricing and Future Models

The pricing of PNY CS3250 is as below:

  • 1 TB Model: $126
  • 2 TB Model: $220

Plans of PNY also include the launching of a 4 TB version of the CS3250, but the exact date of release has not been announced yet.
