FX Orders Anthology Series on Far Cry Starring Rob McElhenney

FX has given a series green light for a limited series based on Ubisoft's popular video game franchise, Far Cry. The project is being developed as a limited series in an anthology format, with each season being set in a different location and featuring a new cast of characters in the same vein as the game. The series is set to stream on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ for international audiences.

The Creative Team and Production

Two renowned FX creators come together to create the series. Rob McElhenney, creator of the long-running hit FX sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and executive producer of the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, will executive produce the series through More Better Productions. He is also attached to co-star. Noah Hawley, creator of the Emmy-winning Fargo anthology series and most recently of Alien Earth, is also on board as an executive producer through his company 26 Keys.

Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, expressed his faith in the partnership, with a long history of the network with both creators, in their mission to produce an original and intoxicating narrative while honoring "the much-loved property" Ubisoft assigned into their hands.

Adapting the Anthology Style

The adaptation aims to capture the unique storytelling of the Far Cry games. Noah Hawley discussed the franchise as an anthology wherein each installment is basically a "variation on a theme" much like in his creation Fargo. By bringing an even more chaotic consideration of human nature, the show seeks to tell a new story every year.

Rob McElhenney described the collaboration as a dream come true, and he acknowledged the magnanimity of Ubisoft for allowing them to tamper with one of the most iconic arenas of the gaming universe.

Executive Producers

The executive producer team stars Rob McElhenney (More Better Productions), Noah Hawley (26 Keys), Emilia Serrano (26 Keys), Nick Frenkel (3 Arts), Jackie Cohn (More Better Productions), John Campisi, and from the Ubisoft Film & Television Team, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill.
