Problems in Start Menu after Windows 11 Update by Microsoft
A recent update for Windows 11, meant to furnish some good features in the Start menu, brought along unforeseen problems as well. Users report two separate bugs undermining the functional reliability of the menu.
The Start Menu Fails to Show Newly Installed Apps
The first set of problems occurs after the installation of certain applications. In this case, the application's folder and shortcuts are missing from the launcher under the ''All'' applications list and also in the Windows search results. While it is possible to locate the file manually in File Explorer, it remains completely hidden from the Start menu.
The only known solution is to restart the system, or if one prefers to do it the faster way, just restart the ''File Explorer.'' After refreshing, it would correctly show the applications and folders, at this stage specifically for folders and applications that actually create their own folders under the Start menu's Programs directory.
Scrolling Glitches Reported Frustrating
The second goes to drive the user up the wall-the Start menu soon after a restart. Immediately upon the menu's first opening, by clicking on any app in the ''All'' list, it scrolls the entire list up to its top. This happens just once per restart and will not happen anymore until the next reboot.
Confirmation and Fix Status
The two bugs were successfully reproduced by Neowin journalists on multiple devices, including a desktop PC, a laptop, and a virtual machine, confirming it is a widely faced problem.
Microsoft appears to have some knowledge on at least one of these problems. Meanwhile, fixing of the scrolling bug was done with Insider Preview build 26220.6780. But, it is not known when the fix will be released for the stable version of Windows 11.
