EA Reportedly Puts Dead Space on Ice No Future Projects Planned
Any hopes for the resurrection of the Dead Space franchise were firmly squashed Despite the largely positive reception of Motive Studio's remake in early 2023, Electronic Arts (EA) has apparently chosen not to carry on with the franchise in any further installments. New reports claim that the series is now going into indefinite hibernation for what seems like the last time.
The Reasoning Behind EA's Move Away from Dead Space
Mike Stro, on the Insider-Gaming podcast, said that there is no plan at this moment for EA to return to the Dead Space universe. The overall motive behind this decision, however, seems to cut across financial lines. For some reason, original trilogy fans celebrated the remake in 2023, but the game had very uninspiring sales numbers that they did not even meet the publisher's expectations.
Plans for Dead Space 4-have been canceled. They had originally planned it a few years down the line, but the team now has been reassigned to make a brand new title featuring Marvel's Iron Man.
Possibility of Selling the IP
While the internal development work has been halted by EA, rumor mills are already turning within the company about who the property would belong to in future Stro says some EA employees are advocating for the firm to offer the Dead Space intellectual property (IP) to another company.
The reasons for this include the financial burdens. Alludes to a recent deal-on a "Consortium" of the Sovereign Fund of Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners-which has apparently been quite costly to EA. Selling the IP might serve as a strategy for making amends with some of those dollars.
Original Creators Rebuffed
The door looks firmly shut even for the original founders of the franchise. Glen Schofield, one of the original creators of Dead Space and the director of The Callisto Protocol, is said to have pitched EA a proposal for making the fourth installment, but the studio rejected it.
