Ads Disabled in Nothing OS 4 with Disastrous Battery Consumption Results
Hot on the heels of recently introduced embedded advertisements into Nothing smartphone firmware, users who found work-arounds to disable those ads are now reporting a major side-effect-the battery drain accelerated. A software bug appears to have been triggered by the disabling of the ad feature.
Causes System Loop in Nothing OS 4
The cause of the trouble was investigated and determined by users on Reddit. Apparently, an ad feature called, "Lock Glimpse," can either be disabled in the Nothing OS 4.0 settings or disabled via the auspices of ADB commands. The wrench in the works happens when the setting is disabled, and the system goes into an endless loop.
Reports from users indicate that the firmware attempts to request the disabled service every three seconds. The incessant activity of this system is what drains the battery so terribly.
Ongoing Transmission
The inquiry stated even after the Lock Glimpse feature is formally shut down, the service for some unknown reason still keeps sending small data packets of approximately 30KB in size to Nothing's servers regularly.
A Only Solution is So Far Known that Produces No Side Effects
As it stands, there is no known method of turning off ads in Nothing OS 4 that would not come hand in hand with the battery-killing bug. Users have thus far identified backup involvement that entails rolling back the firmware to Nothing OS 3.2, a version released prior to the roll-out of the ad feature.
