Fairphone has revealed the Fairbuds 2, bringing user replaceable parts and high resolution LDAC audio support to the true wireless market. The earbuds feature 7 modular components designed for easy home repair and battery swaps. But the company is holding back full technical specifications until an upcoming launch presentation.
Repairability remains the main focus for the Dutch brand. While most modern wireless earbuds end up in the trash once their tiny batteries degrade, the Fairbuds 2 design allows owners to swap out parts rather than buying a whole new set. Fairphone confirmed that the hardware contains 7 individual replaceable modules, with the internal battery being one of the main components on that list. Full details on what the other 6 parts are will be revealed during the official hardware showcase.
Audio quality is also getting a welcome boost. The original generation Fairbuds were limited to basic SBC and AAC audio streaming. This new model adds Sony LDAC codec support, allowing Android users to stream high resolution audio files with far more detail. Other audio features, including driver sizes and noise cancellation abilities, remain under wraps for now.
Pricing is set at €119 across European markets at launch. Fairphone plans to follow that with a release in the United States at a price point of $119. That price makes them competitive against standard consumer earbuds, especially for buyers who want hardware that lasts longer than 2 years.
